Accounting Manager

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the Accounting obligations of Fareportal in Mexico while managing a small team. This position will be located at our Mexico City office in colonia del Valle.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a liaison between Fareportal representatives in USA and Contravel in Mexico, acting as a Subject Matter Expert for every issue related to the financial department.
  • Oversees daily operations of the Accounting team (purchasing, accounts payable, general accounting).
  • Oversee the correct management of (but not limited to) the accounting team processes: accounts reconciliation, tax calculation, expense management, accounts payable and accounts receivable, bank inquiries and relationship.
  • Establish system controls in accounting system and ensure accounting procedures conform to IFRS
  • GAAP understanding preferred.
  • Researches and handles tax issues that arise, works directly with tax attorneys and tax authorities as needed.
  • Oversee monthly and yearly obligations with the Mexican Tax department and Mexican government.
  • Oversees the annual external audit including a detailed review of drafts of the annual external audited financial statements.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of internal controls within the accounting department to prevent inaccuracies in financial statements. This includes overseeing the management review of all account reconciliations and analyses prepared by the accounting team.
  • Assists with the design and implementation of financial controls and best practices including those that come from recommendations made by the Internal Audit and/or Risk Management Functions.
  • Develops new accounting policies and procedures, as well as maintains and oversees governance of existing ones.
  • Stays abreast of upcoming and newly issued authoritative accounting literature. Analyzes the impact of accounting for non-routine transactions and the adoption of new accounting pronouncements. Consults with subject matter experts as needed, documents the conclusions of the analyses and implements necessary changes.
  • Manage annual capital expenditure budget, including tracking purchases against divisional budgets.
  • Work to improve processes through simplification and automation 

Requirements:

  • Strong Bilingual English - Spanish

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting

  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience in accounting operations preferably for a travel or marketing organization, or with a public accounting/auditing firm that supports these sectors. Ideally having worked on multi-cultural and/or global environments.

  • The ideal candidate has excellent math and analytical skills (including Google sheets and MS Excel at advanced level) combined with a passion for finding solutions to complex problems.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics AX a plus.
  • Must have a solid understanding U.S. and Mexico GAAP/IFRS, internal controls, and the preparation and analysis of financial statements.
  • Previous experience managing accounting staff is required.
